Housing charity told to make changes after Wolverhampton fatal fire

A coroner has called for changes in a housing charity’s maintenance practices after a man sadly died in a house fire in Wolverhampton

The previously homeless man was only moved into the property three days before his room caught fire on December 31st. The cause of the fire was found to be his fridge which hadn’t been PAT tested in 2 years. This called for officials to submit a regulation 28 report to prevent future deaths.

The charity argued that it had followed the public health guidance that was available at the time.

P3 failed to carry out a reassessment of the increased risks posed by the non-testing of electrical appliances in the Wolverhampton man’s house during the Pandemic. The report stated that the fridge had last been tested in June 2019. P3 had accepted that the test was out of date when the man moved into the house on December  28th.
