Elderly woman dies in Derbyshire bungalow fire

An 85-year-old woman has died following a bungalow fire in Derbyshire.

The bungalow was located on Highfield Lane, Newbold. The fire started in the early hours of the morning on Monday, 27 February.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire that started in the living room of the home.

The woman was handed into the care of the East Midlands Ambulance Service and was taken to the hospital. She sadly passed away the day after.

The fire investigation determined that the incident was an accidental electrical fire.

Station Manager Rob Leverton, who carried out the investigation, said: “I’d like to extend the thoughts and sympathy of everyone at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue to the family and friends of the deceased at this distressed time.”

“Firefighters and Community Safety Officers will be in Highfield Lane, Hall View and the surrounding areas today speaking to local residents about fire safety and providing reassurance following this devastating fatal fire.”

They also added: “Anyone with concerns can visit the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue website where there is specific electrical fire safety advice and information relating to both safe and well visits and keeping safe in the home.”
