Birmingham City Football Club’s training ground has been damaged in a ‘severe’ fire, which emergency services said was caused by an electrical fault.
The blaze broke out early on Friday morning (March 3rd) at Watts Hill training ground.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 2:29 am.
The kits hanging in the training room were managed to be retrieved by firefighters so players were ready for their Saturday trip to Wigan Athletic.
A spokesperson said: ” There was a severe fire on the ground floor of a single-storey unit with some areas covering two storeys.”
“By 6:06 am, crews were damping down and checking for hotspots with a fire investigation underway.”
The club says members and staff have been told that the facilities will remain closed.
