The families and children being treated at Sheffield Children’s Hospital had to be evacuated following an electrical fire.
Everyone on wards 1, 2 and 3 were rushed from the area following the discovery of the fire. Thankfully no one was injured during the incident. This was due to staff being effective and following the established contingency plan.
The NHS trust thanked South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for their work containing the fire and supporting families and patients. Staff are assessing damage to the ward space following the fire. However, they do not expect appointments to be impacted.
Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said: “We evacuated wards 1, 2 and 3 due to a small electrical fire at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. We safely moved patients, families and colleagues and after managing the fire we have now relocated everyone within the hospital.”
“No one was hurt, and we followed the established contingency plan to ensure everyone was still looked after and kept safe. Thank you to our colleagues and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue for safely containing the fire and supporting our patients and families as we moved things around.”
“We are reviewing any damage to the ward space and making sure it’s safe to return to for everyone. We don’t expect any outpatients or day case appointments to be impacted in the coming week. However, we will speak to anyone directly if any inpatient stays are affected.”
