Fire investigators release details on what caused Morely Hayes Golf Course fire

The cause of a fire that decimated Morley Hayes Golf Course’s greenkeeping facilities has been released by investigators. Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at the golf course in Morley near Ilkeston, on Tuesday (June 20) night.

The blaze destroyed a large outbuilding leading to significant damage to the fleet of tractors and mowers used to maintain the course. An investigation was launched by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service which found the fire was most likely an accident due to electrical items.

Thankfully no one was injured in the fire. A statement from Morley Hayes said: “We would like to reassure you that all of our facilities are open as normal and there will be no disruption to our services.”

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Firefighters were called to a fire involving a single storey outbuilding at a golf course on Main Road, Morley, Ilkeston, at 10:47pm on Tuesday, June 20. On-call and whole time firefighters from Ilkeston, Nottingham Road, Heanor and Kingsway, initially attended the scene.”

“A fire investigation has determined the most likely cause to be accidental due to electrical items.”
