Two people were taken to hospital after a major house fire in Tamworth which took three fire crews to extinguish. Crews from Lichfield, Tamworth Belgrave and Mercia went to a home on Grayling, Dosthill, just after 2:15am two days ago.
Paramedics and police evacuated four people from the property, with a man and woman being sent to Good Hope Hospital with injuries. The other two were given ‘self-care advice’ by ambulance staff before being discharged from the scene, where firefighters took two hours to bring the flames under control.
Firefighters are now urging residents to ensure their electrical items are safe after the cause of the blaze was found to be a Wi-Fi router that had ignited. Faulty electrics such as overloaded sockets and faulty electrical appliances cause over 7,000 house fires nationwide every year.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service station manager Duncan Cole said: “Residents should make sure all electrical appliances have a British or European safety mark when you buy them. Try to keep one appliance to one plug where possible and don’t overload extension leads and sockets which are prone to overheating.
“When you’re going to bed or leaving the home, turn off all of your plug sockets and don’t leave electrics on for long periods of time. High-powered appliances such as washing machines should always have a single plug socket.”
