Police and firefighters find cause of fire that ripped through Leeds home

Firefighters were called to the property on Harehills Avenue in Leeds shortly before 7pm on Tuesday evening. Pictures taken yesterday show extensive damage to the terraced home, which backs onto Brookfield Avenue. The porch roof of the building has collapsed, with significant damage to the front of the house.

Two police cars and a West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) vehicle were at the scene yesterday conducting the fire investigation.

WYFRS has confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault which came from a fridge. This fire then spread through the rest of the kitchen. A spokesperson said: “Crews attended from Leeds, Killingbeck and Cookridge. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the flames. Crews remained at the incident overnight to monitor the situation and the fire investigation left at around 1.20pm today (Tuesday).”
