Derbyshire fire chief reveals cause of deadly house fire

A dog and two cats have died in a Heanor house fire. Firefighters from Heanor, Ilkeston and Nottinghamshire’s Eastwood and Stockhill stations were called to the house on Sunningdale Avenue, Marlpool, just before 10am on Wednesday, July 19th.

When they arrived at the fire, it was already well alight and crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, which started in the ground floor living area.

Although ten cats and one dog were rescued, sadly two cats and one dog died.

A joint investigation by the fire service and police has now concluded that the cause of the blaze was most likely to be an accidental electrical fire.

The fire service said everyone was out of the house at the time.
