A family from Coventry have been left heartbroken after all of their pets sadly died in a devastating fire that tore through their home. The damage to their house has meant that they have been forced to stay in a hotel in the meantime. Not only does the couple have to come to terms with the severe damage to their family home, but they have the additional heartache of losing their beloved pets (two cats and one dog).
All three pets died when an electrical fault caused a fire that swept through the living room at the house in Whitley. Matt Mclean, one of the sons of the couple, had taken his parents out for lunch that day. When they got a call with the upsetting news, their lives were turned upside down.
The couple had lived in the house for almost three decades with their children, so it was filled with memories, a lot of which have now been lost. “Some of the photos were in a cupboard, so they were pretty salvageable – we were lucky that some of them were saved,” Matt said. “At least we have something – when we first saw the living room we honestly thought there would be nothing left.”
“I think for them (his mum and dad), the most heartbreaking thing is the pets,” he said. “Don’t get me wrong, I had lived in that house since I was one and a half and I have never looked at it and felt as sad to see all of the damage, but losing the pets is something that is going to take a long, long time for everyone to get over.”
