Crews from Nuneaton and Atherstone fire stations were the first to respond to the fire in Stratton Street.
Early signs of the investigation into the fire are leading to an overloaded plug socket being behind a house blaze in Atherstone. The residents inside evacuated after a fire broke out in the roof space of a property on Stratton Street.
They raised the alarm with the fire service at 9.40am yesterday (February 1) and three engines – one from Atherstone and two from Nuneaton – raced to the scene. The crews ended up being there for more than an hour tackling the flames and damping down the property to prevent any further fires.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze but early indications are that it was started by an overloaded plug socket. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS) is leading the investigation.
A WFRS spokesperson explained: “WFRS were alerted to this incident at a two-storey domestic property at 9.40am this morning and three fire appliances were mobilised. The fire was located in the roof space and crews used breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
“All persons at the property were accounted for. Crews were clear from the incident at 11.20am.”
