People were evacuated from their flats after a fire broke out in an ‘electrical cupboard’.
Emergency services were called to Lee Lane, Horwich, just after 2 pm and remained on the scene for several hours.
Four fire engines were mobilised to the scene as were police, who remained after the firefighters left the scene.
One family was forced to evacuate after hearing the alarm. The fire had broken out in a different flat from theirs.
They had only moved in two weeks ago after moving from Bolton.
David Jankovics and his family were out of the property for more than four hours.
He said: “Something was wrong with the electricity upstairs.
“We live here, we were worried there was a lot of smoke and the fire alarm went off.
“We have been outside for around four hours.
“We have just been here for two weeks.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At just after 2 pm today, Wednesday, March 20, four fire engines from Horwich, Bolton North, Wigan, and Hindley fire stations were called to reports of a fire involving an electric cupboard in flats on Lee Lane, Horwich.
“Firefighters used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and make the scene safe alongside colleagues from Electricity North West.”
Electricity North West was also called to the scene.
The cause of the fire is not known.
Police have been contacted for a comment.
