Exploding e-bike battery sparked devastating house fire near Stafford

The battery from the electric bike sparked the blaze that ripped through the semi-detached home. Firefighters were called at around 3:15am on Saturday, July 9 to the home in Rugeley (close to Birmingham and Stafford). All the residents had managed to escape by the time the firefighters arrived. The fire left the home ruined and has left the family having to find different accommodation for the foreseeable future.

The battery of the e-bike exploded and then the fire was accelerated by the lithium-ion battery that the e-bike had. This prompted a warning for locals of what lithium-ion batteries can do. This is part of a growing problem with the increasing number of fires involved with lithium-ion batteries. The dangers and causes of lithium batteries is a message trying to be spread by fire marshals and fire safety officers.
