Crews from five fire stations were called to a ‘hotel blaze’ in Birmingham city centre yesterday, Tuesday the 10th of January. The smell of electrics burning was reported at the nitenite cityhotels building next to Centenary Plaza.
West Midlands Fire Service said they were called to Holliday Street at 5:12pm. Smoke logging was reported at the scene of the servers on the ground floor.
There were no reports of injuries or anyone needing to be evacuated. The fire service advised people avoid the area to allow fire engines to access the scene.
Through Twitter, the fire service said: “Fire crews are currently dealing with an incident in a building near Centenary Plaza Birmingham City Centre. Please avoid the area.”
A spokesperson for the fire service said there was a small fire which had caused smoke logging.
A second tweet added: “The incident involves a smell of burning, believed to be electrical, on the ground floor. Our crews are working to locate the source. The hotel has not been evacuated at this stage.”
A later post from the fire service said: “This incident has now been resolved.” Crews helped make the area safe and left the scene in the hands of the building’s management at 6:30pm.
