A home in Leicester has been gutted by a fire caused by an electrical fault. The fire spread quickly through the house in Thornville Close, Northfields. The house was only around the corner from Eastern Fire and Rescue Station.
Crews from the station arrived on the scene at about 7:20 pm on Tuesday (October 22nd) to find that the flames had spread across the living room to other parts of the property, including the kitchen and stairs.
An investigation has since concluded that the fire was accidental and was due to an electrical fault. Firefighters have shared pictures from the incident.
A spokesperson for the service said: “Two appliances from Eastern were mobilised to a fire in a domestic property. On arrival, the ground floor was fully involved in fire and spreading quickly throughout the property.
“There was a request from the incident commander for a third appliance to attend, which came from our Central station [in Lancaster Road, in the city centre]. Four firefighters in breathing apparatus, using two hose reel jets, extinguished the fire and stopped further fire spread and protected neighbouring properties.”
“Following the completion of the firefighting, we checked a number of properties to see if they have working smoke alarms and to offer reassurance.”
