A Morrisons store in Solihull has reopened after closing its doors after an electrical fire.
Shortly before 9:20 pm on Tuesday 5 September, West Midlands Fire Service were called to a fire at a Morrisons supermarket on Chester Road, Shard End.
This was a fire involving electrical cables and ducting in the roof void of the supermarket. The store was evacuated at the time of the incident.
Two fire engines, two brigade response vehicles, and a hydraulic platform attended, crewed by 15 firefighters from Sheldon, Ward End and Highgate stations. Fire crews were assisted by a drone operator, who helped identify the source of the fire.
Fire crews put out the fire using C02 extinguishers. It is believed to have started accidentally and there were no casualties. The fire crews left the scene at 1:05 am.
A Morrisons spokesperson told BirminghamWorld: “There was a very small fire in the roof of our Castle Bromwich store on Tuesday evening and following safety checks, we have reopened the store today.”
In 2022, on September 3, a Morrisons store in Edgbaston faced extensive damage after an external fire. A fire had torn through the roof of the store on Hagley Road. An investigation concluded it had started ‘accidentally’. The store has yet to restore its roof to its previous look completely.
