Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes, the largest city in Buckinghamshire. The city is known for its roundabouts and its concrete cows. The city is said to have over 130 roundabouts and this number is constantly increasing. The reason for all these roundabouts is that they are said to reduce stop-start driving, which in turn reduces the production of pollution. The concrete cows were created in 1978 by the American artist Liz Leyh. There are three cows and three calves, they are about half of their life size. Milton Keynes is also the base for Formula One team Red Bull Racing. The team does race under the Austrian flag but their factory and base is in Milton Keynes.

Milton Keynes also has its own brewery where it brews its own beer at the Concrete Cow Brewery. Milton Keynes was only granted city status in 2022 after trying in 2000, 2002 and 2012 also. The development of the city with its radical plan, form and scale attracted international attention. Some early phases of this development include work by celebrated architects including Sir Richard MacCormac. But, the urban design has not been praised universally. In 1980, the then president of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Francis Tibbalds, described Milton Keynes as “bland, sterile, rigid and totally boring.”

What is PAT testing?

PAT testing is where your electrical appliances get routinely tested for safety purposes. PAT testing makes sure that they do not pose an electric shock or electrical fire risk. It is made up of a series of smaller tests; a thorough visual inspection, earth bond and insulation resistance tests.
