Rotherham

Rotherham, a market town in South Yorkshire. Its name comes from the River Rother. Rotherham has prominent factories in its Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP), which include Rolls-Royce, McLaren, Nikken and British Steel. Rotherham United is the football team that the town is associated with. Their stadium is The New York Stadium. It gets its name from the site the stadium is built on which used to be the maker of New York’s distinctive fire hydrants. Milling grain into flour was a traditional industry in Rotherham. This is where Rotherham United F.C.’s nickname “The Millers” comes from.

Rotherham’s town centre has various chain stores, including the likes of Tesco. Also, following the availability of “Vitality Grants” from 2009 onwards, a growing number of new independent businesses have opened in the town centre. Due to its close proximity to Sheffield’s city centre and its Meadowhall shopping facility, a large shopping culture has never arisen. Rotherham is directly connected to Sheffield via the Trans Pennine Trail, which passes the Meadowhall shopping centre on both sides, and this is what allows for Rotherham’s population easier access to Sheffield and its shopping culture.

Rotherham was heavily affected by the flooding in the summer of 2007, which caused the closure of many roads, schools, transport services and damaged many residential and commercial properties. These included the Parkgate shopping complex and the Meadowhall centre.

What is PAT testing?

PAT testing is where your electrical appliances get routinely tested for safety purposes. PAT testing makes sure that they do not pose an electric shock or electrical fire risk. It is made up of a series of smaller tests; a thorough visual inspection, earth bond and insulation resistance tests.

What kind of businesses need it?

Nearly all businesses should carry out PAT testing. The Electricity at Work Regulations say that the employer should maintain all electrical equipment to make sure it’s safe to use. They frequency that you carry out PAT testing can vary depending on the type of business & the overall risk. For example, construction sites should be tested more frequently than offices.
