PAT Testing in Wakefield

Wakefield, a cathedral city only situated 11 miles from Leeds. Wakefield is traditionally known for its cathedral, coal mining heritage and rhubarb. The city’s most famous vegetable, the rhubarb, has its own festival which returned after its year break for covid. Wakefield is known for its rhubarb because the highest density of rhubarb farmers could be found between the cities Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield, which when lines were drawn between on a map formed a triangle. This area is now known as the Yorkshire Rhubarb Triangle. 

In the 1980s Wakefield struggled with the glass and textile industry closing down and also with their coal industry starting to have some serious competition. Then eventually the coal mines were closed being the first coal mines to close in Yorkshire under the government of Margaret Thatcher. This therefore led to Wakefield struggling with high rates of unemployment. Employment grew eventually by 12% between 1998 and 2003 as the economy recovered and enjoyed growth as the economic base rate of the district was diversified.
