Walsall

Walsall, a market town situated 10 miles outside of Birmingham. Walsall is infamously known for its leather and especially saddle making. Walsall is known as the leather capital of Britain, and also as the world capital of saddle making. This tradition carries over to their football team Walsall F.C. who are known as “The Saddlers”. The Saddlers main rivals are Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion but do not play them regularly so look at Port Vale and Shrewsbury Town as rivals also, despite them being further away. Walsall F.C. haven’t enjoyed much success in their history with their furthest they have reached in the FA cup being the 5th round which is a stage they have reached 6 times, the latest coming in the 2002/03 season.

In the period of the Industrial Revolution Walsall changed from a small village of about 2,000 people to a town of over 86,000 in only approximately 200 years. This was due to the town’s great production and manufacturing which mainly was leather and saddles but also included chains, buckles and plated ware. In more recent times Walsall has become a great historic town with great attractions such as its New Art Gallery, Walsall Leather Museum and its Sister Dora and concrete hippopotamus public statues. Walsall has four twin towns across the world; these are Bahla in Oman, Mulhouse in France, Amritsar in India and Kobar in Palestine. Walsall is also the birthplace of former Paralympic swimmer Eleanor Simmonds OBE.

What is PAT testing?

PAT testing is where your electrical appliances get routinely tested for safety purposes. PAT testing makes sure that they do not pose an electric shock or electrical fire risk. It is made up of a series of smaller tests; a thorough visual inspection, earth bond and insulation resistance tests.

What kind of businesses need it?

Nearly all businesses should carry out PAT testing. The Electricity at Work Regulations say that the employer should maintain all electrical equipment to make sure it’s safe to use. They frequency that you carry out PAT testing can vary depending on the type of business & the overall risk. For example, construction sites should be tested more frequently than offices.
