Residents flee Nuneaton house amid ‘smell of burning’ as fire crews race in

Firefighters say that they “did the right thing.”

Residents fled their homes in Nuneaton amid the ‘smell of burning’. They raised the alarm and fire crews and engines from Nuneaton Fire Station raced to the scene in Thackeray Close, Galley Common.

When firefighters arrived they found the occupants outside. Using thermal imaging cameras, the crews checked the house for the cause of the burning smell. “It was an electrical fault in the shower,” said a spokesperson for the Newtown Road-based station.

They added: “The occupants did the right thing as soon as they smelt the burning smell and evacuated the building and dialled 999. This gave us the opportunity to check the whole home.” Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service offers ‘Safe and Well’ checks at homes.

The free service sees crews make a visit to homes to provide safety advice, check that smoke alarms are working and replace/install new ones if needed. More information can be found on the website here.
