Travelodge have issued a statement after a fire at one of its hotels on the A64 near York.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after being called around 7:31pm on the 19th. Firefighters from Tadcaster, Acomb, Easingwold and York attended the scene. On arrival, crews confirmed a cupboard had caught fire which caused the huge plumes of smoke inside and partly outside the building.
Crews evacuated the hotel with members and guests led to safety. A spokesperson form Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has said that an investigation is being taken place but it is believed to have been caused with an “electrical issue”.
The crews on the night conducted a full search of the premises and led four people to safety. The fire was extinguished using three hose reels, six breathing apparatus, four thermal imaging cameras, triple extension ladder, lighting and small tools.
Travelodge came out and thanked the emergency responders for their swift response. They said, “All guests and staff members were safely evacuated. We would like to thank the emergency services for their rapid response, and our hotel team who followed protocol and conducted a successful evacuation. We would also like to offer a huge thanks to our guests for their cooperation with the evacuation.”
