Woman hospitalised after electrical heater fire in Coventry

A woman was taken to hospital after an electrical heater fire in Coventry. The event occurred on James Green Road on Thursday (February 2nd).

Two fire engines from stations in Coventry and Canley attended the scene. The first engine arrived within 5 minutes of being called. Paramedics were also called to the scene shortly after 8pm following reports that the homeowner was inside the property.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus while tackling the fire at the two-level terraced property. Crews managed to extinguish the blaze with a hose reel jet.

A woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation at the property in Tile Hill. She was taken to University Hospital Coventry for further treatment.

Crews discovered that the blaze was caused by a faulty electric heater which was kept within the bedroom of the property. A full search of the premises was carried out shortly after the event took place.

West Midlands Fire Service has now warned of the dangers of electric heaters as people continue to look for ways to save money whilst still heating their homes. A spokesperson has urged people to try and avoid accidental fires.

Officials have said to never put heaters in places that block escape routes or places that are used regularly. Homeowners should also ensure that portable heaters are switched off, unplugged and fully cooled before moving them around a property.
