Solihull

Solihull is the home of the main production plant of Land Rover, and is located in the West Midlands and is situated about 10 miles outside of Birmingham. Most parts of Solihull are urban; however, the larger borough is rural in character. With some outlying villages, three quarters of the borough is designated as green belt. Solihull is known for being the birthplace of Land Rover and still hosts the largest manufacturing centre for the car brand to this day.

Solihull offers a variety of shopping facilities. In more recent years the town has undergone great development. Its Touchwood shopping centre was opened in 2002 by Queen Elizabeth II. The Crown Estate has an equity interest in the shopping centre. In 2014, the town was listed as one of the top five destinations for shopping in the UK. In addition to the Touchwood shopping centre, it also has an open-air 1960s-style shopping centre called Mell Square which was constructed following the demolition of several terraces of Victorian houses. Luxury vehicles have also made up some of Solihull’s economy, with a dealership for Rolls-Royce, and other luxury car dealerships.

Every year since the early 1930s, Solihull Carnival has taken place. The carnival takes place on the first weekend after the June half-term and takes place in Tudor Grange Park.

What is PAT testing?

PAT testing is where your electrical appliances get routinely tested for safety purposes. PAT testing makes sure that they do not pose an electric shock or electrical fire risk. It is made up of a series of smaller tests; a thorough visual inspection, earth bond and insulation resistance tests.

What kind of businesses need it?

Nearly all businesses should carry out PAT testing. The Electricity at Work Regulations say that the employer should maintain all electrical equipment to make sure it’s safe to use. They frequency that you carry out PAT testing can vary depending on the type of business & the overall risk.
