Cannock

Cannock is a town in the greater Cannock Chase area, in the county of Staffordshire. The word Cannock likely comes from old English ‘cnocc’ meaning a stand-alone hill separated from a group of hills or a range. Cannock saw its major growth occur in the mid-to-late 19th century with the increase in mining in the area. This was also helped by it being in close proximity to the Black Country and its coal reserves.

Cannock is known for its ‘Cannock Chase German war cemetery’ which contains 4,885 dead German military soldiers from the first and second world wars. It is upkept and managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

In April of 2021, the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet West Midlands opened up on the outskirts of the town after it initially started being constructed in 2017. The structure has about 60 shops and restaurants from Nike and Adidas to Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein. This shopping village created about 1,000 new retail jobs for the community, supporting around £20 million of employment income each year. This venture has also contributed to the local area with a £15 million contribution to a highway improvements programme that has enhanced the nearby road network.

What is PAT testing?

PAT testing is where your electrical appliances get routinely tested for safety purposes. PAT testing makes sure that they do not pose an electric shock or electrical fire risk. It is made up of a series of smaller tests; a thorough visual inspection, earth bond and insulation resistance tests.

What kind of businesses need it?

Nearly all businesses should carry out PAT testing. The Electricity at Work Regulations say that the employer should maintain all electrical equipment to make sure it’s safe to use. They frequency that you carry out PAT testing can vary depending on the type of business & the overall risk.
